RIVER WHISPERS

An Early Afternoon bouquet of performance and art taking place in the Greenbelt river park Boise, Idaho.

Saturday March 23rd 2013

After performing in the Treefort Fest in 2012 artist and filmmaker Peter Max Lawrence was invited to experience Boise during the afterglow of its music festival. While meandering about the river way for the third time since his arrival to the lovely city, he sat quietly in front of the stunning cold spring water and over his ear-buds blasting a Rufus Wainwright song or two, he heard a voice repeatedly asking him to get into the river. Who, what and where did this voice come from? He knew this direction was a bad idea and might even be certain death; but on a crisp cool Tuesday morning he dipped his pale toes in to the mountain's cold waters and quickly darted back to the log where is socks and shoes were delicately placed. It was here, as he brushed the dirt off his feet, that it occurred to him, not only had he enjoyed walking around in high heels carrying a cross as a combo Kurt Cobain/Courtney Love amalgam all weekend but wouldn't it be nice to bring the people, the audience and the artists to the river. Wouldn't it be even nicer to offer this astounding natural space and theater as a temporary stage for performance and art work. Yes wouldn't it be just lovely. So after a few discussions with the ever-so-lovely local Elizabeth McSurdy, who by strange and awkward chance, had invited him to the line-up of her self driven performance series for the same Treefort the idea was born and the baby wanted to, yes you guessed, it whisper near the river.
